Power inverters
What is an inverter?
An inverter is a device that produces alternating current (AC) from direct current (DC). You can charge up a battery, for example, which will generate 240V a/c power for a limited time. Inverters are not like generators. They produce less power and are practical only for low consumption appliances like computers and TV's.
These devices last 3-4 hours before they need to be recharged.
Advantages: No noise, no fumes, capable of powering essential appliances through a power outage, relatively inexpensive. Very handy to have around!
