Carbon Monoxide Poisoning!

Generator dangers! I’m going to keep this page short so that you don’t simply scan the page. Read this carefully.

Never ever use a generator indoors! EVER!
Why? Because just like your car, generators emit carbon monoxide gas - the same stuff that kills people who leave their cars running in the garage. Carbon monoxide is a colourless and odourless gas. It’s also very deadly because most victims don’t realise that they are being poisoned.

Even with the garage door open, there still isn’t enough ventilation to keep the fumes outside. They simply invite themselves in and can slowly kill an entire family.

Unfortunately this is not an urban legend or scare tactic. It’s not the power outage that kills people – its carbon monoxide poisoning from generators that kill people. KEEP GENERATORS OUTSIDE AT ALL TIMES!

I know it's obvious but I'll state it anyway! Petrol and diesel are extremely combustible - the slightest spillage and the next thing you know, your generator's on fire. It's a no smoking zone!

Buy yourself a fire extinguisher! They are not expensive and you should have one hooked up in your garage wall anyway, whether you have a generator or not. Available from ADT home security products

Switch off before you refuel! You'll be amazed how many people refuel a generator while it's still running. It's an extremely dangerous practice - even when the generator is hot, not to mention running. Always allow 5 minutes for the generator to cool down before refueling.
